The Horizon Sanctuary

In 1999, under the leadership of Dr. Joseph L. Roberts, Jr., Ebenezer's 2,000-member congregation completed construction of the New Horizon Sanctuary. The New Ebenezer Baptist Church, known as the Horizon Sanctuary, was designed around the concept of an African meeting house.

Inside the Horizon Sanctuary

The Horizon Sanctuary is located directly across for the old sanctuary on Auburn avenue.  The base of each interior column is clad with one of four African cross motifs. Two motifs are Coptic Christian from Ethiopia, one is the cruciform with a globe superimposed upon it, and the fourth is a design from the original church reminiscent of African weaving patterns. Inside, Hut-shaped arches comprise the roof while four large skylights comprise the roof.

Our Church Symbols

The sanctuary is organized around fan shaped seating sections with the carpet and seating fabric resembling African textile patterns.   The pulpit features custom designed chairs, lecterns, and a communion table displaying African motifs.
